FCRA § 611: how the 30-day credit-bureau dispute works
2026-05-21
FCRA Section 611 (15 U.S.C. § 1681i) requires a credit bureau to investigate any item you dispute in writing, contact the furnisher, and either delete or correct the item within 30 days. Beyond that, FCRA § 1681s-2 allows you to send a direct dispute to the furnisher itself. If the bureau fails to investigate or refuses to correct verified errors, you may have statutory damages of $100–$1,000 per violation under FCRA §§ 1681n / 1681o. The QuickClaimAI Credit Report tab generates both letters and the CFPB complaint payload.
